Day Old Puppies

Here is a litter of wire pups just hours old. Note the color on the heads. At birth, where there is color, it is black. That will turn to some shade of brown or tan by the time the puppy goes to his or her new home. Sometimes within days you will see the beginnings of the change of the color. The markings on other parts of the body that are black will stay black.

PUPPY INFORMATION

This is what you can expect when you buy a puppy from Wyrelee Kennels.

  • A healthy puppy that has been checked out by a veterinarian
  • At least the first set of shots and maybe the second or third depending on the age when purchased.
  • A five generation pedigree.
  • The American Kennel Club registration application.*
  • A guarantee that if something genetically goes wrong you can return the puppy and get a replacement.
  • A support system. When any questions arise about training problems or how to groom him/her, or any concerns at all, you just call me and I will help you out as best I can.

*Pet quality puppies may go to a new home without AKC registration application forms until they are spayed or neutered. Puppies going into pet homes, whether show quality or not, will have the limited registration checked at the time of purchase. If the buyer/buyers change their mind and wish to show or breed at a later date, they must have the puppy evaluated for breeding and/or show potential after the pup is one year old and the registration could possibly be changed.

Here are a list of some questions you should be prepared to answer when contacting me about getting a puppy from me. The questions and answers can be emailed to me.
    • Where do you live?
    • Where will your puppy sleep?
    • Is your yard fully fenced? If so, what type and height?
    • Will there be anyone home during the day-time?
    • If you have children - what ages are they?
    • Why do you want a wire?
    • Do you have any other dogs? If not, what breeds of dogs have you had before?
    • Are you interested in showing in conformation or any performance events such as agility or obedience?
    • Are you planning on breeding your puppy in the future?
    • A puppy is for a lifetime - not just while it's a cute puppy. Do you agree with this statement?

These are some of the questions I may ask you. There may be others. If you are really interested, don't be intimidated. I just want to make sure that my puppy ends up in a "forever" home with people that will love and care for him or her its entire life.

  • Who Is Coming?

Look! Someone is coming to visit. I wonder if they will like me? I am sure I will like them, especially if they bring treats!

Actually there were some people coming up the driveway and all the puppies were very interested in checking them out.

Wire puppies are very loving and full of life. They are also full of energy and comical antics. Independent and stubborn are also part of their nature. It is important that anyone interested in getting a wire fox terrier puppy realize that this animal is a handful and requires considerable time on your part. Training the pup to be a good citizen is vital to realizing the potential of this delightful package.

When training a puppy, please remember that they are "babies". it will probably take more than one training session to get your message across. Don't get mad if you have to repeat your commands several times over several days. Yelling doesn't really accomplish anything. Picking them up and holding them eye to eye and talking to them in a serious deep tone can get quicker results if you need to punish them.

    Ch. Wyrelee Hot Stuff

Even as puppies, I can see the potential of a champion. Here is future Champion Wyrelee Hot Stuff at about 3 months old playing with a bone. "Pepper" was one of two champions from the litter sired by Ch. Sunnybrook Spot On. His dam was Ch. Wyrelee Hobgoblin.

If you are interested in competing in the conformation ring, you need to start the pup out early with grooming the coat, training him or her to feel at ease on the grooming table. Even at 3 months the pup can learn how to stack himself into a show pose. You can see what a beautiful stripped coat "Pepper" had even at 3 months.

By getting your puppy exposed to lots of different things and places, you will have one that is excited so see everybody and one that is a delightful, joyful companion that everybody loves to be around.

Puppies should have lots of toys and things they can chew so they don't start chewing up the house! Don't leave a puppy alone in the house where he/she can have free access to all parts of the house or you could come home to a disaster. Crating them or putting them in a small pen with lots of things to keep him/her entertained while you are gone would be a good idea. A product called Bitter Apple helps to teach them not to chew things you don't want them to chew. When they start teething, you may begin to think you don't have a dog, but maybe an animal that is part goat!!!

    PUPPIES POSSIBLY AVAILABLE SPRING '08

THE PUPPY, PICTURED ON THE HOME PAGE, WAS SIRED BY CHAMPION WYRELEE JOKER'S WILD AND BORN APRIL 29, 2007. Don't forget to read the list of questions I have above and send them to me in an email or be prepared to answer them if you call.

A friend of mine who has purchased 4 wires for me over the years thought that crating his puppy while he was at work, would be cruel. So he left him alone in a room where there was no furniture. He did leave some toys and things to keep him entertained. Scooter, however, had other ideas. He started investigationg the room and that the doors on the built in credenza had doors that popped open if he bumped up against them. Behind the doors was a large collection of stemware. When the owner returned from work he discoverd that he no longer had a large collection of stemware. He had an exceptionally large collection of broken glass. Evidently, Scooter pulled each glass out and flipped it up into the air. Must have made a deliciously wonderful sound because all of the glasses were broken. The owner called me up and told me what happened and that he was on his way to the store to pick up a large crate for Scooter to stay in while he was at work. As Scooter got older, he settled down into a very good gentleman and never broke any more glasses!
